Starting October 2026, surcharges will no longer be covered by the patient. To ensure payments are processed correctly, practices must review and update their surcharge settings.
There are two options available:
Set the surcharge to be paid by the Business
Disable the surcharge for the relevant manual payment method
Payment Surcharge on Manual Payment
To update the surcharge settings for manual payment methods:
Navigate to Settings > Financial > Payments. Under the Default tab, you will see a list of all available manual payment methods.
In the Who Pays the Surcharge column, select Business instead of Patient.
By selecting Business, the surcharge will be absorbed by the business and will not be added to the patient's payment amount.
Disabling the Surcharge
If your practice does not intend to cover or apply a surcharges, make sure the Surcharge option is disabled for the relevant payment methods.
Payment Surcharge on Stripe
For Stripe payments, the surcharge settings can be updated separately. To change who pays the surcharge:
Navigate to Settings > Financial > Payments. Select the Stripe tab.
Click Edit on the Stripe payment method.
Locate the Who Pays the Surcharge field.
Select Business.
This ensures that the surcharge is covered by the business rather than being added to the patient's payment amount.
